Glossary/Smart Link

Smart Link

A single URL that dynamically redirects visitors to different destinations based on configurable rules such as geographic location, device type, or traffic split percentage.

Extended Definition

A smart link (also called an intelligent link, dynamic link, or conditional redirect) is a URL that doesn't have a fixed destination. Instead, it evaluates a set of rules when clicked and routes the visitor to the most appropriate destination in real time.

For example, a single smart link like go.yourbrand.com/best-vpn could send US visitors to a US pricing page, UK visitors to a GBP pricing page, iOS users to the App Store, and Android users to Google Play — all from one URL.

Smart links solve a fundamental problem in affiliate marketing: you need one link to share across channels (social media, email, ads), but your audience is global and diverse. Without smart links, you'd need separate links for each country, device, and offer variant.

Key Components of a Smart Link

  • Slug — The URL path (e.g., /best-vpn)
  • Rules — Conditions that determine the redirect destination (geo, device, traffic split)
  • Priority — The order in which rules are evaluated (lowest number first)
  • Fallback — Default destination when no rules match
  • Analytics — Click tracking, conversion data, and traffic quality metrics
