Glossary/Earnings Per Click (EPC)

Earnings Per Click (EPC)

The average revenue generated per click on an affiliate link. Calculated as total revenue ÷ total clicks. The primary profitability metric in affiliate marketing.

Extended Definition

Earnings Per Click (EPC) is the single most important metric for affiliate marketers because it directly measures how much money each click is worth. When you know your EPC and your cost per click (CPC), you instantly know if a campaign is profitable.

EPC = Total Revenue ÷ Total Clicks

Example: Your link generated $750 in revenue from 5,000 clicks → EPC = $0.15

Profitability Check

If EPC > CPC → Campaign is profitable
If EPC < CPC → Campaign is losing money

If you're paying $0.10 per click on Facebook and your EPC is $0.15, you're making $0.05 profit per click. Scale it up. If your EPC is $0.08, you're losing $0.02 per click. Optimize or kill the campaign.

How to Increase EPC

  • Geo-target to high-value countries (US/UK/DE typically have higher payouts)
  • A/B test offers to find the highest-converting variant
  • Filter bot traffic (bots inflate clicks without generating revenue)
  • Optimize landing pages for conversion rate
  • Negotiate higher payouts with advertisers based on traffic quality
